Whether you’re gearing up for pictures outside in the beautiful Texas spring, or preparing for your shoot inside a studio, here are our top tips on getting ready for your engagement shoot.
Get your ring cleaned
There is a lot of focus on your ring (or rings) during an engagement shoot. You want your ring to sparkle. Little known fact: many jewelers offer free or low cost cleaning. You can also buy cleaner online (Amazon for the WIN). Clean your ring as close to your engagement photos as possible for optimum shine.
Pamper your hands
Similarly to having your ring cleaned, you want to have great looking hands for all those close up shots! Get a manicure or do a hand mask at home. Make sure to apply hand cream in the days leading up to your shoot for soft, supple skin that looks beautiful in portraits.
Pick out the right outfit(s)
Clothes are an important part of your shoot. Wear something you feel comfortable and confident in, especially if your shoot is outdoors. You and your partner should coordinate your outfits together. This doesn’t mean it needs to MATCH, just that the colors/style should compliment each other. Avoid anything with large logos or branding - these can become dated in future years. Clean classic styles are usually best, but letting your personal style shine is equally important. Determine if you want something dressy, upscale casual, sporty, fun or edgy. This is a great excuse to shop and find a new outfit you love.

Find a hair and makeup look you love
It’s highly recommended you have professional hair and makeup done before your engagement shoot. (Guys - get a fresh cut 2-3 days before). Professionals will make sure that your look stays in place, especially if your shoot is outside. If this isn’t an option for you or your partner, be sure to bring a touch-up kit with you.

Eat a light meal & Drink Water - lots of water!
While you should always eat before a photo shoot to avoid getting hangry, don’t eat too much either. Find something that makes you comfortably full and avoid foods that can cause bloating. And don’t forget to stay hydrated - drinking lots of water will ensure your hair and skin looks it’s best on camera.
Share your ideas with your photographer
If there are particular poses or looks you’d like, be sure to share them with your photographer ahead of time. For ideas check out @mirandalongoriaphoto on social.
Don’t be afraid to be unique!
Do you share a love for a sports team or hobby? Are your fur kids super photogenic? Do one or both of you play an instrument? Whatever makes you unique as a couple, we want to feature it in your session. These are memories that will last a lifetime and they should be representative of you both, and your life together.
Make a day out of it
Lastly, you’re all dressed up - take advantage of it - Plan a date around your engagement shoot and enjoy your time together looking fabulous. Your engagement session should be a special memory, not just some pictures on the wall.
With these top tips you and your partner will breeze through your engagement shoot.
