Last year I made a decision to no longer offer in-studio newborn sessions and transition to in-home lifestyle sessions for newborns instead. (I provide in-home lifestyle sessions for families as all stages of life, not just newborns. Be sure to check out my sale next month for 50% off Lifestyle Sessions).
Three main reasons prompted this change:
- Baby's Comfort. Baby's are happier in their mom or dad's arms, at home, surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells they are used to.
- Mom's Comfort. The best time for newborn photos is within the first 7-10 days of the newborn's life, but that's also when mom is healing from the stresses of giving birth, trying to establish a feeding and sleep schedule and rarely feeling up to getting out of the house with a newborn.
- Photographer's Creativity. If I don't have to stress over trying to get your baby calm and asleep and can leave that up to you, then I can work on getting all those creative and emotional shots that make the session a success. Everyone walks away happy, relaxed and feeling like special memories were made and captured.
I have an entire packet with tips and information to prepare your home and newborn for an in-home lifestyle session. Email me and I'll send you a PDF of information. Don't wait too long... we can start planning your newborn session as soon as you find out you are expecting. We can even create a portrait package that will cover you for maternity, newborn and even milestone sessions (such as the 6 month/sitting session and 1 year/cake smash session).
Being your family's historian is such a joy. Enjoy these lifestyle sessions from 2017.
I met Beckham's parents while shooting a wedding a few years ago. Brittany was the maid of honor. When she contacted me after the birth of her second child for a newborn session, I couldn't wait to catch up and snuggle up with her new little guy.
The Mayfield home is an absolute dream for a lifestyle photographer. Big widows with lots of natural light. Beautiful neutral decor right out of a magazine and a sweet little nursery to make any mommy swoon.
This is why I love these in-home sessions for newborns so much. They are in their element and we are capturing this family's history for generations to enjoy and look back on. Not just the faces, but the spaces and environment that they lived in and loved in.
Another newborn lifestyle session happened just a few weeks after Beckham's when good friends of his mom's were welcoming their first baby and wanted a similar low-key newborn session in their home. Everliegh was everything pink and dainty, just as you would expect from a precious baby girl. I can't get over her mom's hashtag for her, #everlieghafter (and it certainly feels like this is their happily ever after).
I hope you enjoyed browsing through these two newborn lifestyle sessions from last year. I am looking forward to all the in-home sessions that 2018 will bring me. Contact me for details and booking information at firstname.lastname@example.org.
